A teenage Ted Savage made a name for himself when he featured 96 times for Lincoln City between 1928 and 1931.

The Third Division side were reluctant to let their prize asset leave, but after missing out on promotion he was eventually sold to the Reds in 1931.

The half-back made his Liverpool debut as an inside-left and his impact was instant. He notched twice in a 4-0 rout of Grimsby Town - a double that would prove to be his only goals in a red shirt as he played out the remainder of his Anfield career as a defender.

The only seasons when Savage could be considered a first-team regular were 1934-35 and 1935-36. He played in 27 of the 42 league fixtures in each season, but apart from that he was only occasionally selected.

His final appearance for the club came in an away game at Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 16, 1937.
