Sydney Ross was Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper in the club's only season in the Lancashire League, 1892-93.

He played 18 times in the division and kept clean sheets in half of those games, while also featuring three times in the FA Cup that term.

The majority of the regulars in the side had the prefix 'Mc' in front of their names so the team was known as 'The team of Macs'.

The Liverpool Echo noted at the time that "it was amusing to hear Ross frequently greeted by humorously inclined spectators behind the goal with cries of 'Play up, McRoss'."
