Sydney Ross was Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper in the club's only season in the Lancashire League, 1892-93.

<p>He played 18 times in the division and kept clean sheets in half of those games, while also featuring three times in the FA Cup that term.</p><p>The majority of the regulars in the side had the prefix 'Mc' in front of their names so the team was known as 'The team of Macs'.</p><p>The Liverpool Echo noted at the time that "it was amusing to hear Ross frequently greeted by humorously inclined spectators behind the goal with cries of 'Play up, McRoss'."</p>
