Ray Clemence's performances hardly gave Steve Ogrizovic a chance to make an impact at Anfield, but he became a legend at Coventry City.
'Oggy' played his 600th game for the Sky Blues, and his 719th in total, against Liverpool on April 1, 2000. He only played five of those matches in the Reds' goal.
Ogrizovic arrived at Anfield from Chesterfield in November 1977 as cover for the outstanding Clemence after only 16 games in Chesterfield's first team.
He was a fine goalkeeper in his own right – as evidenced by the remarkable career he subsequently had with Coventry – but his chances of displacing the England international were always going to be very slim.
Ogrizovic did play against Derby County and Leeds United in March 1978 but Clemence's form and fitness meant the giant reserve goalkeeper made only a handful of further appearances between the posts in first-team matches over the next three seasons.
He moved on to much greater things with Coventry, with whom he won an FA Cup medal in 1987.
