Stanley Kane was the goalkeeping 'cover' for first-team regular Arthur Riley at Liverpool for two seasons in the middle of the 1930s.

<p>Riley played in all but three of the league fixtures in both those seasons, leaving Kane with a record of six appearances between the posts. </p><p>His debut was one to remember, coming in a Merseyside derby at Anfield that the Reds won 2-1, with Kane impressing and coming close to saving the penalty from which Dixie Dean netted for the Blues.</p>
