A tough Scottish centre-forward, Sam Shields was hampered by injury during his brief time at Liverpool.
He was signed from Cowdenbeath in May 1949 but made just one appearance for the Reds before returning to Scotland in 1951.
That sole outing for Shields came in a 1-1 First Division draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers six months after his arrival.
