Rigobert Song arrived at Liverpool in January 1999 from Serie A side Salernitana.

Having been frozen out by the Italian club, Song impressed during a trial spell at Anfield and made his debut against Coventry City at Highfield Road.

The first Cameroonian player to represent the Reds, the defender became an instant hit with the supporters, who appreciated his all-action style and effort.

He had a mixed 1999-2000 campaign, missing three months of the season due to international commitments as he captained his country to victory at the African Cup of Nations and scored the decisive penalty.

And he played just four games in the 2000-01 season before departing for West Ham United in the November, in a swap deal that saw Liverpool capture Finnish U21 striker Daniel Sjolund.
