Rigobert Song arrived at Liverpool in January 1999 from Serie A side Salernitana.

<p>Having been frozen out by the Italian club, Song impressed during a trial spell at Anfield and made his debut against Coventry City at Highfield Road.</p><p>The first Cameroonian player to represent the Reds, the defender became an instant hit with the supporters, who appreciated his all-action style and effort.</p><p>He had a mixed 1999-2000 campaign, missing three months of the season due to international commitments as he captained his country to victory at the African Cup of Nations and scored the decisive penalty.</p><p>And he played just four games in the 2000-01 season before departing for West Ham United in the November, in a swap deal that saw Liverpool capture Finnish U21 striker Daniel Sjolund.</p>
