Goalkeeper Patrice Luzi had only made one appearance in the French second division for Ajaccio before being brought to Liverpool by Gerard Houllier in 2002.

<p>He represented the Reds on a single occasion, when he came on for the injured Jerzy Dudek in the 1-0 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on January 7, 2004.</p><p>Luzi was all set for a full debut at Anfield against Southampton, but Houllier felt he wasn't experienced enough and signed Paul Jones on an emergency loan instead.</p><p>After falling down the pecking order, he only played the odd reserve match in the 2004-05 season and left on a free transfer in June 2005.</p>
