Kenny Dalglish moved to bring Nick Tanner to Liverpool from Bristol Rovers for £20,000 in 1988.
The defender's first appearance for the Reds came as a 16th-minute substitute for Gary Gillespie in a 4-1 victory over Manchester City at Maine Road in December 1989.
Tanner went on to make 59 appearances for Liverpool and the Bristolian netted his only goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park in 1991-92.
He was a virtual ever-present in Graeme Souness' side that season, turning out 45 times.
Tanner also spent time on loan at Norwich City and Swindon Town before injury cruelly cut his career short.
