Central defender Mauricio Pellegrino reunited with Rafael Benitez when he signed for Liverpool in January 2005.

<p>The pair had enjoyed great success together previously at Valencia, though Pellegrino's time as a player at Anfield would be much shorter.</p><p>Cup-tied for the Reds' successful Champions League campaign that season, the Argentinian made 12 league appearances before the end of the season.</p><p>He joined Alaves that summer, but returned to Liverpool in 2008 to take up a coaching role under Benitez that would last for two years before the Spaniard left his role as manager.</p>
