Liverpool-born Len Carney was an amateur player who was picked six times for Football League matches during the 1946-47 and 1947-48 seasons.

He was 31 years old when he made his Reds debut at Sheffield United on the opening day of the first full season following the Second World War, a campaign in which Liverpool would go on to win their fifth First Division championship.

Carney marked his first match for the club in stunning fashion, scoring a last-minute winner at Bramall Lane on that August 1946 afternoon.
