Skilful outside-left Ken Brierley had played more than 50 league matches for Oldham Athletic before signing for Liverpool in February 1948.

<p>He appeared in 10 of the last 11 games of the 1947-48 season and notched his first goal for the club as Everton were beaten 4-0 at Anfield on April 21, 1948.</p><p>Brierley never really established himself in the Reds team, however, and the highest number of league appearances he made in a season was just 13.</p><p>He returned to former club Oldham in March 1953.</p>
