Jon Newby first arrived at Liverpool as a nine-year-old and represented the club on four occasions.

<p>A quick though slightly built striker, he was part of the team that won the FA Youth Cup with the likes of Jamie Carragher, David Thompson and Michael Owen in 1996.</p><p>All of his first-team opportunities came as a substitute during the 1999-2000 season.</p><p>But he was surplus to requirements at Anfield and after loan spells at Carlisle United, Crewe Alexandra and Sheffield United, Newby signed for Bury permanently in March 2001.</p>
