Past playersJohn Welsh
Years: 2002-2005
Appearances: 10
John Welsh joined Liverpool at the age of 10 and after coming through the Academy was the reserve-team captain.
Despite some promising displays and being a regular for England U21s, he found opportunities for the Reds under Gerard Houllier limited, particularly after the arrival of Salif Diao.
He debuted as a substitute in the League Cup tie with Ipswich Town at Anfield in December 2002.
The midfielder made two more appearances off the bench early in the 2003-04 campaign and then featured on seven occasions in the next season following the appointment of Rafael Benitez as manager.
Welsh joined Hull City in the 2005-06 season.
