A powerful and reliable right-back, John Molyneux joined Liverpool from Chester in the summer of 1955 and went on to play more than 200 games for the club.

He made his debut in a 3-3 Second Division draw at Blackburn Rovers in September that year - the first of 37 appearances in all competitions during his debut season.

The Warrington-born tough tackler was a Reds regular for each of the five seasons that followed too, maintaining his place in the side following the appointment of Bill Shankly in late 1959 and playing at least 38 times in each of those terms.

However, as the new manager set about building a team for promotion back to the top flight, an objective they achieved in 1961-62, Molyneux was limited to four appearances.

After a total of 249 games and three goals for the club, he departed Anfield to re-join Chester in 1962, where he played for two seasons before finishing his career with New Brighton.
