Right half-back John McConnell played for Liverpool in the period leading up to the outbreak of the First World War.

<p>The Scot made his debut on December 18, 1909 when the Reds travelled to Villa Park.</p><p>He clocked up 13 further appearances that season as Liverpool finished runners-up to champions Aston Villa.</p><p>McConnell played 29 First Division games in 1910-11 and another eight during what turned out to be his third and final campaign at Anfield, 1911-12.</p>
