    Right half-back John McConnell played for Liverpool in the period leading up to the outbreak of the First World War.

    The Scot made his debut on December 18, 1909 when the Reds travelled to Villa Park.

    He clocked up 13 further appearances that season as Liverpool finished runners-up to champions Aston Villa.

    McConnell played 29 First Division games in 1910-11 and another eight during what turned out to be his third and final campaign at Anfield, 1911-12.
