John Durnin scored on a regular basis for Liverpool's reserve team - 60 goals in 84 Central League matches.

<p>But he struggled to break into the first team, with John Aldridge, Ian Rush and Peter Beardsley stood firmly in his way.</p><p>Durnin debuted in a League Cup tie at Fulham in October 1986 and only two more senior opportunities came his way, both during the first half of 1988-89.</p><p>After leaving Liverpool, he performed well for Oxford United and Portsmouth in the lower divisions.</p>
