John Carlin appeared in Liverpool's forward line during the first decade of the 20th century, making his debut at Stoke City on January 17, 1903.

<p>This was his only game of the 1902-03 season and the single match missed by the Reds' star striker Sam Raybould, who scored 32 times in the 34 games he played.</p><p>Carlin played just five times in 1903-04 but did score his first goal in the fourth of those matches, a 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion.</p><p>The highest number of appearances he made in a single campaign was the 16 he managed during 1905-06, when Liverpool were crowned top-flight champions.</p>
