John Carlin appeared in Liverpool's forward line during the first decade of the 20th century, making his debut at Stoke City on January 17, 1903.
This was his only game of the 1902-03 season and the single match missed by the Reds' star striker Sam Raybould, who scored 32 times in the 34 games he played.
Carlin played just five times in 1903-04 but did score his first goal in the fourth of those matches, a 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion.
The highest number of appearances he made in a single campaign was the 16 he managed during 1905-06, when Liverpool were crowned top-flight champions.
