Left-half John Browning played in 19 league matches for Liverpool during the mid-to-late 1930s but was never a regular in the side.

<p>He was given his debut towards the end of the 1934-35 season, playing in three of the last four league fixtures of that campaign.</p><p>However, due to the consistency of regular half-back Jimmy McDougall he was only picked six times in 1935-36 and that was the highest number of appearances he made for the club during any one season.</p>
