Liverpool-born Joe Dickson signed for the Reds in June 1952 when he was 18 years old.

<p>But he had to wait for his first-team opportunity until nearly the end of the 1955-56 season.</p><p>When he was finally give his chance, he took it well. Dickson made his debut on the right wing, but played as an inside-right and inside-left as well, scoring four goals in six games for the Reds.</p>
