Glasgow-born centre-half Joe Cadden signed for Liverpool in June 1948 after impressing the club’s management on their USA tour.

<p>He had moved to America after being discharged from the army at the end of World War II.</p><p>Cadden didn't make his debut until September 1950, by which time he had already passed his 30th birthday.</p><p>Only four more senior appearances followed before he was transferred to Grimsby Town in July 1952.</p>
