Jimmy Payne was a skilful and tricky right winger for Liverpool, beating man after man for fun.

<p>Although he did spend part of the 1951-52 season at inside-left, a position he was not really suited to.</p><p>The Scouser had debuted for his hometown club against Bolton Wanderers at Anfield on September 11, 1948.</p><p>But after the heady championship days of 1947, the Reds' fortunes gradually declined and they were eventually relegated to the Second Division at the end of the 1953-54 season.</p><p>Payne struggled with injuries in the latter part of his Liverpool career, lost his form and the crowd seemed to turn against him.</p><p>He eventually signed for Everton in April 1956 but his spell there was a brief one; he played six games and scored two goals, then retired from the game before his 30th birthday.</p>
