Jimmy Nicholl was signed for Liverpool from Middlesbrough's forward line.

<p>And after making his debut in January 1914 he proved to be a valuable player in the Reds' brilliant cup run that very season.</p><p>The Scotsman scored two goals in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Aston Villa that ensured a first ever appearance in the final, which Liverpool unfortunately lost against Burnley.</p><p>Overall, Nicholl scored 14 goals in 59 games during his two-year spell at the club.</p>
