Scottish left-half Jimmy McInnes made nearly 50 league appearances for Liverpool just before the Second World War.

He arrived at Anfield in time to play in the last 11 First Division fixtures of the 1937-38 season, which included the only official goal he scored as a Reds player - in a 3-1 win at Brentford on March 19, 1938.

He was the 28th of 29 different men to figure for the club that season but a year later the side was much more settled; 22 players were involved at some stage of the campaign but 10 of them made 30 or more league appearances, with McInnes' total being 34.

After just three fixtures of the 1939-40 season the Football League was suspended due to the outbreak of war.

McInnes never played in a competitive match for Liverpool again, although he did make the team for a number of games in the hastily arranged Western Division of the Football League.

He joined the Reds' administrative staff after he retired in 1946 and was the club's secretary from 1955 to 1965.
