Scottish left-half Jimmy McInnes made nearly 50 league appearances for Liverpool just before the Second World War.

<p>He arrived at Anfield in time to play in the last 11 First Division fixtures of the 1937-38 season, which included the only official goal he scored as a Reds player - in a 3-1 win at Brentford on March 19, 1938.</p><p>He was the 28th of 29 different men to figure for the club that season but a year later the side was much more settled; 22 players were involved at some stage of the campaign but 10 of them made 30 or more league appearances, with McInnes' total being 34.</p><p>After just three fixtures of the 1939-40 season the Football League was suspended due to the outbreak of war.</p><p>McInnes never played in a competitive match for Liverpool again, although he did make the team for a number of games in the hastily arranged Western Division of the Football League.</p><p>He joined the Reds' administrative staff after he retired in 1946 and was the club's secretary from 1955 to 1965.</p>
