Jimmy Harrop was tagged as the legendary Alex Raisbeck's successor in the middle of the Liverpool defence.
He was playing for Rotherham Town when a Reds director discovered him, and a deal was agreed to bring him to Anfield in January 1908.
A cool, methodical player, Harrop quickly established himself in the club's back line for the next four years after his initial half-season, totalling at least 30 games in each of the full campaigns that followed. He also contributed exactly one goal each term.
Harrop and Reds goalkeeper Sam Hardy left to join Aston Villa in the summer of 1912.
