Jimmy Harrop was tagged as the legendary Alex Raisbeck's successor in the middle of the Liverpool defence.

<p>He was playing for Rotherham Town when a Reds director discovered him, and a deal was agreed to bring him to Anfield in January 1908.</p><p>A cool, methodical player, Harrop quickly established himself in the club's back line for the next four years after his initial half-season, totalling at least 30 games in each of the full campaigns that followed. He also contributed exactly one goal each term.</p><p>Harrop and Reds goalkeeper Sam Hardy left to join Aston Villa in the summer of 1912.</p>
