Right winger Jimmy Carter was signed for Liverpool by Kenny Dalglish from Millwall in January 1991.
Carter had earned himself a good reputation with the Lions after earlier spells with Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers. He was part of the squad that gained promotion into the top division for the first time in the south-east London club's history in 1988.
Two days after arriving at Anfield he went straight into the Reds team for a league match at Aston Villa, when he was given Dalglish's famous No.7 jersey.
That was the first of just eight appearances Carter would make for Liverpool, however - five under Dalglish and three for his successor, Graeme Souness.
It was clear Carter was not going to be part of Souness' plans and he returned to the capital to join Arsenal in October 1991.
