Jim McBride was a half-back who was a regular member of the Liverpool team that won the Second Division championship in 1893-94.
He only missed four of the 28 league games and also played in the Test Match at the end of the campaign, a 2-0 victory over Newton Heath, that ensured the club would play in the top division the following season.
But McBride only played five more times that year as Liverpool made an immediate return to Division Two, finishing bottom of the table with 22 points and then losing the decisive Test Match to Bury.
