Past playersJim Harley
Years: 1935-1948
Appearances: 131
Honours: League title (1946-47)
Scotsman Jim Harley was one of all too many players whose professional careers were cut short by the Second World War.
He first played for Liverpool in one of the full-back positions during the 1935-36 season but didn't establish himself in the side until 1937-38.
Harley also played in the three league fixtures that started the 1939-40 campaign before the national leagues were abandoned in favour of regional ones. During wartime he won Scotland international honours.
When league football resumed after the war, he made 17 appearances as a member of the 1946-47 squad that secured the club's fifth First Division championship.
But he had passed his 30th birthday during that season and would only be selected on another 21 occasions in his eighth and final year at Anfield.
