Bill Shankly brought Jim Furnell to Liverpool as he attempted to mastermind promotion to the First Division.

<p>Bert Slater had been dropped and goalkeeper Furnell played the last 13 games of the 1961-62 season.</p><p>He was first-choice when the Reds had been promoted but he broke his finger 13 games into the campaign. </p><p>Tommy Lawrence replaced him and stayed in goal for years, thus enabling Shankly to sell Furnell to Arsenal in late 1963.</p>
