A boyhood Liverpool fan, Jason McAteer's dream came true when he signed for the club in 1995.
He had built up his reputation at Bolton Wanderers as a central midfielder, also starring for the Republic of Ireland in the 1994 World Cup, but would feature predominantly on the right flank during his time with the Reds.
A tireless and committed player, he was capable of providing excellent deliveries from the wing, evidenced by the tally of 15 assists he recorded across his first two seasons at Anfield.
McAteer was a regular in the XI during that time and played almost 100 games, including a start at Wembley when Roy Evans' side lost the 1996 FA Cup final against Manchester United.
But he was in and out of the team during the next 18 months - due to a combination of form and injury - and he moved on to Blackburn Rovers in early 1999.
