A boyhood Liverpool fan, Jason McAteer's dream came true when he signed for the club in 1995.

<p>He had built up his reputation at Bolton Wanderers as a central midfielder, also starring for the Republic of Ireland in the 1994 World Cup, but would feature predominantly on the right flank during his time with the Reds.</p><p>A tireless and committed player, he was capable of providing excellent deliveries from the wing, evidenced by the tally of 15 assists he recorded across his first two seasons at Anfield.</p><p>McAteer was a regular in the XI during that time and played almost 100 games, including a start at Wembley when Roy Evans' side lost the 1996 FA Cup final against Manchester United.</p><p>But he was in and out of the team during the next 18 months - due to a combination of form and injury - and he moved on to Blackburn Rovers in early 1999.</p>
