A star of Liverpool's early history, Jack Parkinson was a prolific goalscorer at the start of the 20th century.

He was given his debut in October 1903 and in a sign of things to come marked it with a 16th-minute goal, starting a run of 17 consecutive league matches in which he hit the back of the net six times overall.

The following season, Parkinson scored 21 times in just 23 outings in league and cup and his goals-per-game ratio remained exceptional throughout his Reds career, which included a league title success in 1905-06.

In 1909-10 he reached the rare milestone, even for those days when defences were less organised than in more modern times, of 30 First Division goals, and he scored another 43 in the top division over the three seasons that followed.

By 1913-14 he could no longer be sure of his place in the side and only made a further five league appearances for Liverpool, the last of these coming in a Valentine's Day defeat at Bolton Wanderers.

He moved on to Bury having ensured a spot among what remains an elite group to have scored more than 100 times for the Reds.
