Central defender Jack Hobbs joined Liverpool from Lincoln City in 2005 following a successful trial spell with the club.

His senior debut came as a late substitute in the League Cup tie at Reading in September 2007.

Hobbs played the whole 90 minutes of the next round against Cardiff City, and his league bow followed when he replaced Jamie Carragher during the home match with Bolton Wanderers in the December.

A week later he began a league game for the first time - also away to Reading - and he was then picked to start the League Cup fifth-round tie at Chelsea.

However, the arrival of Martin Skrtel diminished Hobbs' chances of a long run in the first team.

So it wasn't a major surprise in January 2008 when Liverpool reached an agreement with Scunthorpe United for him to go out on loan for the rest of the season, where he would have the opportunity to play regularly in the Championship.

Hobbs made nine appearances, scoring once, as Scunthorpe were relegated back to League One after a single season in the higher division.

The defender was subsequently loaned to Leicester City for the 2008-09 season and performed so well the move was made permanent in April 2009.
