A noted amateur sprinter with a time of 10.5 seconds in the 100 yards, Hugh Lester only played twice for Liverpool's first team as an outside-left.

<p>The first occasion came towards the end of the 1911-12 season for an away match at Bradford City, which the visitors won 2-0.</p><p>His only other appearance came the following season as part of the team that lost 4-1 at Sheffield United on October 14, 1912.</p><p>The USA-born Lester switched to Oldham Athletic in May 1913.</p>
