Tough-tackling half-back Harry Lowe played for Liverpool during the second decade of the 20th century, although the First World War took away four years of his professional career.

<p>He played 29 times in First Division games during the disappointing 1911-12 season, when the club narrowly avoided relegation to the Second Division, finishing just one point ahead of Preston North End, who went down with Bury.</p><p>Lowe only missed a handful of matches over the next two years but was unfortunately injured in the penultimate league fixture of 1913-14 and subsequently missed his club's first ever appearance in an FA Cup final.</p><p>But he was fit again by the start of the next season and added another 28 appearances to his career total.</p><p>Although Lowe returned to Anfield when the war was over, he was only selected for five more league games before being sold to Nottingham Forest.</p>
