Harman van den Berg was a winger who represented Liverpool in the two seasons before the outbreak of the Second World War.

<p>His first-team debut was in the Goodison Park derby against Everton on February 16, 1938 - a match in which Jack Balmer opened the scoring after just 10 seconds.</p><p>Van den Berg made 12 consecutive appearances in the first half of the following season but then lost his place and didn't play again until the following spring.</p><p>He was in the team when the 1939-40 campaign began, but the outbreak of war meant that league football was suspended, though the club did continue to play in the quickly arranged Western Division and War League Cup.</p><p>Of the goals Van den Berg scored for Liverpool, two were particularly dramatic - an equaliser in the 89th minute to save a point at Leicester City in October 1938, and a first-minute strike in the 3-3 Anfield draw with Huddersfield Town three weeks later.</p>
