George Pither played 12 league matches for Liverpool in the 1920s, exclusively as a replacement left winger for the established Fred Hopkin.

<p>Hopkin missed six league games during the 1926-27 season and Pither replaced him in all of them.</p><p>And exactly the same thing happened the following year when Pither played in the six fixtures that Hopkin missed.</p><p>His only goal for the club came on the first day of October 1927 when Portsmouth were thrashed 8-2 at Anfield.</p>
