Past managersGeorge Patterson (first spell)

    • Years: 1918-1919

    • Matches: 18

The first of George Patterson's two spells in charge of Liverpool - following the First World War - was in a caretaker position.

He joined the club in 1908 as assistant to manager Tom Watson, and was appointed secretary after the latter's death in 1915.

League football was suspended amid the global hostilities, of course, and did not resume until the 1919-20 season.

Now also given managerial duties, Patterson oversaw four wins in the first six games upon the return of the First Division.

However, a run of poor results subsequently sent Liverpool tumbling down the league table ahead of Christmas.

In December 1919, Patterson returned to the secretary role only and David Ashworth arrived to take over as manager of team affairs.
