Fred Pagnam was a robust forward who had an outstanding goals-per-game ratio while he was at Liverpool.
He signed for the Reds at the age of 23 and scored on his debut at Chelsea on October 10, 1914. Three weeks later he hit the net four times as Tottenham Hotspur were thrashed 7-2 at Anfield.
Pagnam was easily the club's top scorer that season with 24 goals from 29 First Division appearances, with another two coming against Stockport County in an FA Cup first-round tie.
Like so many players of his generation, his professional career was cut short by the First World War, but he maintained his prolific scoring record for Liverpool in wartime matches and in his eight league appearances in the 1919-20 season.
In October 1919, Pagnam was transferred to Arsenal, where he had an impressive scoring record in the First Division, notching 26 goals in 50 league matches.
He later played for Cardiff City, helping them gain promotion to the First Division, and joined Third Division South's Watford for a club-record fee in December 1921.
