Frank Lock had played more than 200 times for Charlton Athletic when he signed for Liverpool in 1953.

<p>An elegant player who could feature at either right-back or left-back, his signing was an attempt to bolster an increasingly fragile defence as the club headed towards relegation to the Second Division.</p><p>Lock made 19 appearances before the end of the campaign as the Reds did indeed drop out of the top flight.</p><p>He was in the line-up at full-back for the first 18 matches of the following season and his last league appearance for the club came at Middlesbrough towards the end of April 1955.</p><p>Two months later he returned south to continue his playing career with Watford in the Third Division.</p>
