Scunthorpe-born Dick White arrived at Liverpool in November 1955 after playing 133 league matches for his hometown club.

He replaced regular centre-half Laurie Hughes at Barnsley on March 10, 1956 and made a further seven appearances before the end of that season.

But Hughes missed only one league fixture in 1956-57 so it wasn't until the following season that White became a regular in the side.

He only missed two matches over the next four league seasons, taking his tally of appearances for Liverpool in all competitions close to the 200 mark.

However, Ron Yeats arrived and took over as captain from White, who had only been leading the club out for one season.

That effectively ended his career as a Reds player, although White still managed to make a further 25 appearances as a right-back before leaving Anfield as a Division Two champion.
