Son of former Liverpool wing-half Roy, Dean Saunders was expected to take Anfield by storm when he arrived from Derby County for a record fee in July 1991.

<p>However, the Wales international didn't quite live up to his reputation in a Reds side whose passing game didn't seem to suit him. He was used to Derby's counter-attacking style, scoring many of his goals for the Rams by using his exceptional pace. </p><p>He did rack up 23 goals - including nine in the UEFA Cup - in 54 appearances during his debut season at the club and started the FA Cup final victory over Sunderland at Wembley.</p><p>But early in the next campaign he was sold to Aston Villa, with whom he haunted the Reds within nine days of leaving, scoring two goals for his new club in a 4-2 defeat of Liverpool at Villa Park.</p>
