David James played almost 300 times for Liverpool during the 1990s and his seven-year spell at Anfield included a League Cup medal and more than 100 clean sheets.
Graeme Souness brought the talented young goalkeeper to Anfield from Watford for £1 million in July 1992.
He made his Reds debut a month later in a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest and went on to feature regularly across his first season.
During the 1993-94 season, James lost his place to veteran 'keeper Bruce Grobbelaar, but then regained the spot and was a constant presence under Roy Evans.
Indeed, he played in every league game across the three campaigns of 1994-95, 1995-96 and 1996-97.
James started in Liverpool's victorious League Cup final against Bolton Wanderers in 1995, and was on the losing side as the Reds were defeated by Manchester United in the FA Cup final the following year.
Having also become an England international while on Merseyside, he moved on to Aston Villa in a £1.8 million deal in June 1999.
Over the next decade and more, he carved out an impressive Premier League career that later took him to Portsmouth via West Ham United and Manchester City.
