David Hodgson arrived at Liverpool as an England U21 international in 1982 and was tipped to have a bright future ahead of him.

<p>His record of 20 goals in 140 matches for Middlesbrough was hardly prolific but he made an impressive start to life with the Reds, notching four times in his first six games.</p><p>Hodgson ended the campaign with nine goals in 37 matches and seemed to revel in the opportunity of playing alongside the likes of Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish.</p><p>However, the arrival of Michael Robinson limited his chances and he left the club after the successful treble-winning season of 1983-84.</p>
