After Archie Rawlings and David McMullan had worn the Liverpool No.7 shirt in the opening 11 First Division games of 1925-26, outside-right Cyril Oxley took over when Sunderland visited Anfield on the last day of October.

<p>He then played in 31 consecutive matches until the end of the season, scoring six times.</p><p>Oxley also represented the Reds in three FA Cup ties that year, a run ended by Fulham in the fourth round after it had taken a replay to dispose of Southampton in round three.</p>
