Liverpool-born forward Colin Russell had been an apprentice at Anfield before signing professional forms for the club in April 1978.

<p>But he only made one brief appearance for the first team, substituted on for Howard Gayle in the end-of-season home fixture with Sunderland on May 2, 1981.</p><p>That chance came at a time when Bob Paisley had many injury worries to his first-choice players ahead of the European Cup final with Real Madrid in Paris.</p><p>He moved on to Huddersfield Town the following year.</p>
