Left-back Christian Ziege joined Liverpool from Middlesbrough during the summer of 2000.

The Germany international arrived with plenty of pedigree but started only a third of the Reds' matches throughout the epic treble-winning 2000-01 season.

Probably his best game for the club came in the UEFA Cup quarter-final away to AS Roma, when his superb cross saw Michael Owen score his second goal of the game to secure a priceless 2-0 win.

Ziege also made a substitute appearance in the League Cup final against Birmingham City and scored one of the penalties in the shootout victory in Cardiff.

Frustration at his lack of first-team opportunities and the emergence of Gregory Vignal as another contender for the position led to Ziege moving to Tottenham Hotspur after just a single campaign at Anfield.
