Dublin-born Brian Mooney's single appearance in a Liverpool match came when he was substituted on for Jim Beglin during a 3-2 League Cup victory over Fulham.

The Reds headed to Craven Cottage on October 7, 1986 for the tie's second leg, holding a 10-0 aggregate lead from the first match.

Although registered as a Liverpool player since the 1983-84 season, it was clear Mooney's chances of breaking through at Anfield were extremely slight given the club's continued run of success through the whole of the 1980s.

He had a loan spell at Wrexham before joining Preston North End in the 1987-88 season.
