Brad Jones made 27 appearances for Liverpool across a five-year spell as back-up goalkeeper to Pepe Reina and later Simon Mignolet.

Having spent more than a decade in English football with Middlesbrough, the Australian made the switch to the Reds in the summer of 2010.

Jones was handed a Reds debut at Anfield in the September, but the occasion proved one to forget as the club suffered a penalties defeat by Northampton Town in the League Cup.

Reina's reliability and consistency meant first-team opportunities were limited and Jones joined Derby County on loan for the final few months of 2010-11.

By the end of that year, however, football was put into tragic perspective for Jones and his family when his five-year-old son, Luca, lost his battle with leukaemia.

April 2012 was perhaps the highlight of Jones' time with Liverpool, as an unpredictable set of circumstances set him up to shine on one of the biggest stages of all.

With Reina suspended, Alexander Doni started a league clash at Blackburn Rovers but was dismissed, and Jones had to step in. Straight away he saved a penalty en route to three points.

The following weekend, he was between the posts as Kenny Dalglish's Reds defeated neighbours Everton at Wembley to book a place in the FA Cup final.

An injury to Reina during the opening months of the 2012-13 campaign offered more chances for the custodian and he was subsequently rewarded with a new contract in December 2012.

As Mignolet assumed responsibility from Reina the following summer, Jones continued to provide support for the Belgian as he set about establishing himself at Anfield.

His final game for the club, at Burnley on Boxing Day 2014, was cut short due to an early injury and the 'keeper departed on a free transfer six months later.
