Archie McPherson was a Scottish inside-forward who arrived at Liverpool at the end of the 1920s.

Bob Clark started the 1929-30 season at inside-left but was replaced after only two games by Henry Race for the next 13. McPherson then took over the No.10 shirt and only missed two matches between his debut on November 23, 1929 and the end of that campaign, in which he was on the scoresheet five times.

McPherson was one of two ever-presents, the other being Tommy Lucas, in 1930-31 and he contributed 10 goals to the season's league total of 86, but only two goals followed a year later when he was reduced to 28 First Division appearances.

Although he stayed at Anfield for another three seasons, the number of games he played in fell each time until he made the last of his 133 league and FA Cup appearances for the Reds in a home match with Leicester City on November 17, 1934.
