Goalkeeper Alexander Doni was brought to Liverpool by Kenny Dalglish from AS Roma in July 2011.

The Brazilian had spent six years at the Stadio Olimpico before making the switch to Merseyside; however, he would have to wait until April 2012 to make his Reds debut.

When Pepe Reina was shown a red card against Newcastle United on April 1, 2012, Liverpool had already used all three of their allocated substitutes - and so left-back Jose Enrique took up position between the sticks at St. James' Park instead of Doni, who remained on the bench.

A week later, he was handed his full debut, stepping in for Reina as Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at Anfield.

In the following game, against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, he would once again deputise for the suspended Spaniard; however, Doni was shown a straight red card for a foul in the 25th minute. It meant he missed the Reds' FA Cup semi-final win over Everton at Wembley.

Doni played two more games for the club. The first was a 1-0 home defeat by Fulham on May 2, 2012, and his final game came on the last day of the 2011-12 season as Dalglish's side slipped to a 1-0 loss against Swansea City.

In January 2013, he departed to join Brazilian side Botafogo SP.
