Centre-half Alex South made 85 league appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion before joining his old boss, Don Welsh, at Liverpool.

<p>South was unfortunately one of many promising players who didn't make it at the club and tallied only six league appearances for the Reds, plus one in the FA Cup, during the 1954-55 season.</p><p>The defender did manage to get on the scoresheet in his limited game time, though, and it was a memorable one - he delivered an 85th-minute equaliser in a 4-4 Anfield draw with Luton Town.</p><p>He moved on to Halifax Town in October 1956, which was in Third Division North. South played 302 league matches for the club and is considered a legend in those parts.</p>
